"Tropico 4 Gold Edition - having started my journey to totalitarian rule back in Tropico 3 I was excited about the potential of Tropico 4.... perhaps I could conquer local islands and start building a force to be reckoned with? Maybe I could manipulate some smaller states to start working for me in exchange for the copious amounts of money and propaganda at my disposal? Perhaps some whole new facet to the game was going to lift this to the next level....

The answer to all of this is...

3 Star Rating Railroad gaming compared to Tropico 3
    By: T. E, on January 23, 2013
    Pros:
    Cons:

"I really enjoyed Tropic 3 however it seems that in Tropico 4 they missed some of the key fun of the game.

Example: In tropico 3 you could ban a faction. Try and run your island with no Religious groups etc. Or focus on a pure communist state and for real fun keep everyone living in very basic conditions while you reap as much profit as possible.

In Tropico 4 some of these functions have been removed, building automatically upgrade to new versions stopping you from being...

    Pros:
    Cons:

"For those who haven't played Tropico 3 or earlier versions, a short introduction:

This is a real time strategy/city building game that puts you in control of a small island in the carribean. You will have to make economical as well as political decisions and balance your island around the needs of your population. Everyone belongs to a political party, like the religious or the intellectuals, which have also needs and which can cause you a very hard time if ignored. The people have...

5 Star Rating Brilliant ,Quick, cartooney strategy game.
    By: A Marston, on June 1, 2008
    Pros:
    Cons:

"I'm a big Civilization fan having played one through to four and have to say Tropico stands along side it. Its not that Tropico is anything like as deep of a game, it isn't, but if you struggle to find the time for strategy games nowadays it could be for you. A full game lasts one evening and can take very different shapes.

Tropico takes place on a random Caribbean island in 1950 during the cold war. Choose your profile from that of every major South American dictator from Castro to...

    5 Star Rating Brilliant Game
By: Chris Marchant, on October 31, 2002
    Pros:
    Cons:

"The game is a simple one- Rule a Tropical Paradise Island.
However you need money to improve the lifestyle of your citizens.
You also need to keep them happy with food, improved housing, etc.
You need to balance earning money to build new industries and facilities, with keeping your citizens fed and happy.
You can choose various backgrounds which give bonuses to categories such as industrial production or tourism rating.
You also have to pick two flaws, which include...
